Exploring what feed readers were was amazing. I had no clue what this was and I now look forward to using this loving tool. It will definitely make life easier because I will be able to follow all of my blogs and other sites with a click of a button. There is no more having to try to remember all of the sites or bookmarking.
I choose to use RSS Feed Reader for the simple reason that it was one of the free versions. As I got logged on, I was quickly able to find my way through the feed reader. It was simple and easy to use. Searching and adding sites was as simple as clicking the add button. You do have to pay to have it synced between machines and I will probably be doing that soon since I use more than one device or machine. I’m sure that will be helpful. As I began to explore, I searched sites that I follow now because I wanted to make sure they were added before I got caught up with my new findings.
The first site I found was, “Creative Library Concepts”
http://creativelibraryconcepts.com/
The reason I started following this blog was the title. A title with creative in it, screams out to me. Being a first year librarian, this is out of my element. I’m used to being in the classroom where I know my content and I am confident in thinking outside the box. In my current position, I’m just not there yet.
The second site that caught my attention was “Wrapped Up in Books.”
http://wrappedupinbooks.org/
I was drawn to this blog because of the fact that it is strictly about books and the reviews. This is really more for a personal use that work. I enjoy reading the reviews on books that I have both read or not. Learning how others reacted to how they felt about the books is a high interest to me.
The third site that I added was “Book Bug.”
http://mrsnthebookbug.blogspot.com/
This is a site that I have used from my very first day of becoming a librarian. It is full of amazing lessons from the very first time the students walk into the library. This blog also gives you links to Teacher Pays Teachers to purchase items that she has used. I love that because it gives you the opportunity to adapt the lesson to meet the needs of your campus and students.
Next I added “Abby the Librarian.”
http://www.abbythelibrarian.com/
Her blog is a great one for new librarians. She shares what it’s like to live in the shoes of librarian on a day to day basis. What I enjoyed most about this blog was that it help me realize that I’m not alone. The problems I face are faced my several others. It also helps to come up with solutions to problems that we may have day to day such as schedules, lessons, shelving, etc.
The last site that I will share (because it’s not the last site I added) was “Mrs. Lodge’s
http://www.mrs-lodges-library.com/
This by far is my favorite. She also blogs about lessons and activities for the library but they are easier to follow. She has her blog arranged by grade level. This is very helpful when searching for lessons for a specific grade.
