While I look back on all that I have achieved this semester taking Digital Technology for School Librarians, I’m impressed. I feel like I have always been in the know and believed that technology is important to use in the classroom, and though this course has not changed my mind, it has brought on a new perspective. Media is important and it helps to develop the students learning but it has to have a meaning. This does not mean just giving a student an iPad and have them play games. They must continue to explore, create, discover with the use of media. With each assignment my knowledge of the use of technology grew and I couldn’t wait to share what I learned with my teachers. I was also able to create activities for next year that would incorporate each tool that I was able to add to my bag of tricks. I did find myself uncomfortable at times when dealing with some of the assignments, but I worked through the issues and learned to love the new tool.

I honestly enjoyed most of the assignments and the new media tools that we used but I do have a few favorites. Using QR codes was fun. I use to use QR codes in the classroom but hadn’t thought of the different ways that I could incorporate them in the library. QR codes are an easy media device that can be added to almost any lesson. It is very versatile and can store a lot of information. Creating a Tellegami was another favorite. Being able to create a short animated movie will keep the students engaged to complete the assignment. Infographics was new to me. I was a little overwhelmed at first but then got the hang of it and it became another favorite. The way Infographics can be used is endless. I can see them being used as a Newsletter, posters to advertise information, and of course a learning tool. Teachers could have students create a summary using infographics. It’s an exciting new way instead of having them just write it in sentence form.

Creating a Podcast was the most difficult for me and probably one of my least favorites. This doesn’t mean I will not use it with my students, I just need to make sure to have detailed step by step instructions to guide them. Who know some of them could teach me a thing or two.

Overall, I have gained so much information about the use of media. This course has been an eye opener and so engaging. I was eager to get started on the next assignment because I wanted to see what new way I would be able to incorporate the use of technology into the library and share with teachers as well.
