To start, I would like to discuss the way YouTube videos can be used to promote your library. Creating videos to help teach and promote services is a great way to allow students along with their parents to become involved. You can also allow students to create videos as well. Parents would be able to visit the library channel and watch the videos. While going through several channels, it was difficult to find a video that as suited for the elementary level that I am currently aimed at. With that in mind, I looked for material 4th and 5th grades.

Although I think the songs and dances would be the most entertaining, I feel they would benefit the most with the mini lesson on how to cite a song. I also liked the tutorial on how to embed a Prezi presentation in Wikispace. I will be using these two videos soon.
Another activity that I intend on using is Animoto. This is an amazing way to promote books students have read or teacher favorites. It’s something teachers can use that allows students to create a more interesting book report. The book I decided to create a book trailer on is Stick Dog.

In this sequel to the first adventure, Stick Dog and his pals hear a strange noise. They discover it’s a bell attached to a hot dog cart. And when they sniff the aromas emanating from that cart, the hunt for hot dogs is on.
One problem though: This time they have some competition. A team of raccoons led by their ringleader, Phyllis, is on the prowl for the hot dogs too.
Can Stick Dog lead his team to the prize first? It’s going to take all his skill, fortitude and cunning to treat his friends to a fabulous frankfurter feast.
But he’ll have to do something else first – rescue Karen from the clutches of a large, strange-acting human.

QR codes is another way to help promote your library because they can be added to a website or blog, but they can also be used in the library. One of my favorite ways to use them is after reading a read aloud. The students will scan the QR code and a reflection question will appear. They will then be given some time to discuss the question with a group. I’ve also seen them used as a scavenger hunt, book reviews, created by other students and even at the book fair. I plan on expanding my use of QR codes next year.
